Do you live where it’s cold in the winter months? Do you grumble all winter because it’s too cold outside? Well, its time you bundle up and learn how to have some fun outdoors!

If you have kids, your first order of business is to invest in a great pair of winter boots and snow pants because YOU are going to play in the snow! Winter offers a whole new play ground and kids don’t have to have all the fun.

Get out there with them, invent some games, fill some spray bottles, buy some shovels or repurpose the sand toys. The idea is to put on your toque and get out there!

5 Ways to Find Frolicking Fun Outside in Winter

Snowball Toss – Make ‘em and toss ‘em! Who can throw it the farthest? Assign points to a variety of distances and tally ‘em up.  Toss them into a hula-hoop target, through the basketball net, or aim for the top branch of the nearest tree.

Toboggan Hill – Build your own! Start with the first snowfall and push all the snow to one side of the driveway. Build a large pile and then gradually snake it downhill across your front lawn. Won’t take long before you have your own toboggan fun in the front yard for all the neighborhood kids (and the big kids too)!

Winter Olympics – Dress for the temperature outside and then pretend there is no snow! Have time trials down the sidewalk; how far can you get in 15 seconds? Use a scarf to tie yourself to a partner and have 3-legged races, get that soccer ball out and draw goal lines in the snow, tie a rope to the toboggan and pull a partner through an obstacle course in the backyard.

Build a Fort – Hours of fun can be had making the coolest hideout! Pull out the beach toys, fill up the buckets and make it tall, short, make it square, make it round and then get some food coloring in a couple of spray bottles and decorate your fort to make it uniquely yours!

No Snow? Then bundle up and break out the bikes, the scooters, or the roller blades. The cold shouldn’t keep you indoors. There’s lots of fun to be had in the winter months right outside your front door!

Get Outside, have fun and Stay Healthy!
